First, make rice

First, make rice

Fledgling sushi chefs spend months (sometimes years) doing
nothing but making the rice for the head chef.

If the rice isn't right, it really doesn't matter what else you do,
you're not going to be able to serve great sushi.

Most of the recruiting and selling that goes on in Shaklee (or when asking your kids to clean their rooms)
assumes that you already know how to make the rice.

It assumes you understand the art of asking questions and listening,
that you have experience in building rapport, that you have an innate
empathy for what your customers want and think,
that you know how to make a compelling case for your
product and your opportunity, that you know who to invite
and how to invite them, that you know the difference
between presentation and conversation, and the when they say
yes, you know how to get them started,

Too often, we quickly jump ahead to the new thing,
failing to get good enough at the important thing.

FREEDOM

Ed Lukco is a Business Coach who helps people create business plans and exit strategies.   We had coffee recently after my 'big birthday' in August and Ed asked how I planned to get out of my Shaklee business.  "My children will inherit my business," I told him.  He chuckled.  "So who will you hire to run this business for them?"   "The girls grew up with Shaklee.  They know exactly how to run it," I replied.
"Back up," he said, "Tell me how Shaklee works."  So, I told him it's all about changing brands. We build a consumer network that falls in love with Shaklee's products and they tell others who tell others.  If you play the PV game and help 3 others hit their goals in 15 months you will have earned $34,000 in quarterly bonuses, Shaklee will pay your car payments, send you on free vacations, and pay you around $55,000 in ongoing residual income year after year.  This works because Shaklee is consumable and the average Shaklee member has been using these products for over 17 years.  We've had 6 cars and been on over 20 trips.  I told him that I built my network of consumers from 1981 to 1984 and have been living on the residual income ever since.
He leaned back and took a deep breath.  Then he said, "In all my years of business coaching, I have never met anyone who has your kind of freedom.  Mindy, do you take that freedom for granted?"
Now it was my turn to lean back and think.  "Yes, Ed, I believe I do."  (But, I never will again!!)

I have two goals for the next 5 years.  One is to create enough beautiful watercolor paintings to have my own one-woman art exhibit.  The other is to become a Shaklee Master Coordinator.  Ed pointed out that there are a LOT of other people who can only DREAM of having the freedom I have (both financial and lifestyle) and that it's time for me to share this great business along with the super products--they both are life changing!   Thanks, Ed.

Health, Wealth, and Happiness to you....Mindy

Project MAHMA

Stacy tells me she likes my web address:  "Life is Good."

"Why?," I asked.  "Because your life IS good because of all the nice things you've done with Shaklee."

Well, another nice thing is going to happen this Saturday, April 16.  Jude Peskuski, the founder of Project MAHMA, has invited me to tell our Shaklee story live on her Saturday morning call.

Please call in and listen FOR someone else you know who might be praying right now for an opportunity to bring their family together again, to work from home, and to make a difference in people's lives.  Our country is hurting right now.  Shaklee is an old friend who continues to grow even in hard times.

Here's a little bit of Jude's story.  You'll hear mine on Saturday!!  What fun.....

Start Date: September 12, 1977

Jude and Jack Peskuski had a dream - health and financial independence for themselves and their family. Today they are living their dream, made even better because they are improving the lives of others by teaching them the same ideas that brought them success. "So many people," Jude explains, "married with children, young singles just starting out and retirees on a pension want the freedom and independence of working from home and being their own boss. We wanted to find a way to help them reach their goals." And that's what they've accomplished.
Their success began when both Jude and Jack experienced great results from using the Shaklee products. Jude was immediately excited and began to share Shaklee products with her family and friends. Soon, the products were selling themselves. "Shaklee isn't so much about selling," says Jude, "as it is about sharing a lifestyle. Throughout Shaklee's 50-year history, it's always been about families united, unleashing their dreams through building an independent, home-based business with Shaklee."
Jude, a self-proclaimed skeptic, welcomes customers who question and probe until they discover the truth behind the products and the company. " Shaklee is easy to share," claims Jude. "It's a company with integrity, offering products that are science-based and an income opportunity that is second to none!" She embarked on her Shaklee business slowly, working just 2 hours a day, 5 days a week – the major benefit being that she was able to be at home with her children. But within six months, Jude saw her part-time earnings grow to over $1,000 a month!
Listening to working mothers who yearned to be home spawned an exciting new Shaklee enterprise — Project MAHMA™ ... Moms At Home Making A Difference(and a lot of money). Both Jack and Jude believe it's the perfect vehicle at the perfect time! Jude describes Project MAHMA as an international coalition of families who are able to work at home helping others who want to do the same. Jude's enthusiasm for this program is contagious.

Take off those shoes!

We've launched our FAN PAGE on Facebook -- "Greening Granville" -- asking for pledges to remove one toxic cleaning product per month per household for the next 6 months.  Please LIKE this page and encourage your neighborhood to clean up too!

Here is an excerpt from Ms. Capetta's clever article:

Detoxify Your Home

By Amy Capetta

It's no secret that toxins are everywhere, from the polluted air we breathe in the great outdoors to the chemical-laced items that line the shelves inside our homes. While we have little control regarding the quality of the air that surrounds us outside, we can decrease the amount of toxins that we allow to enter our living quarters. "People have become more aware of the importance of living in a healthy home, which is why so many toxic-free products are becoming mainstream," Kevin Tibbs, co-founder and formulation chemist of Better Life cleaning products, told AOL Health. Here's how you can easily reduce the number of potential dangerous toxins in your own home.  [ed note:  Of course, we would prefer you use Shaklee's Get Clean line of safe, hard working cleaners!  Click here for info.]

Take Off Your Shoes
The easiest -- and cheapest -- way to keep toxins out of your home is to take your shoes off before stepping inside, Jennifer Taggart, founder of The Smart Mama
and author of "Smart Mama's Green Guide: Simple Steps to Reduce Your Child's Toxic Chemical Exposure," told AOL Health. "We track so much of the dirt in our homes from outside, and with that comes a host of contaminants, such as pesticides, cadmium, lead and more," she explained. "This simple act can reduce your exposure to these contaminants by as much as 65 percent."

News from Japan

Roger Barnett

Dear Shaklee Family,

I am writing to update you about our Shaklee family in Japan in the aftermath of yesterday's devastating earthquake and tsunami.  Many of you have written to express your concern and desire to help. We still do not have all the facts as the northern part of Japan does not have reliable telephone or mobile service, and it is extremely difficult to travel there.  However, at this time, we do not know of any injuries or loss of life to our Shaklee family.  And we hope and pray that continues to be the case as we learn more over the next several days.
All of our employees in Tokyo and our manufacturing facility near Mt. Fuji are fine, and we believe the same is the case with our distributors.  However, we have a sales office in Sendai, where the tsunami hit hardest.  We believe our employees are safe, but do not yet have final confirmation.  We are trying to reach out to our Sales Leaders in that area, but again, it is very hard to reach people at this time.
We have sent nearly $200,000 of goods from Shaklee Cares to Japan and will be doing an outreach campaign to our Shaklee family here so that you can help our Shaklee family members who may have lost their homes in Japan.  As we know more, we will update you again.
Thank you for your expressions of love and support.
Warm regards,

Roger Barnett
